I'm not interested in the total as much as the total unit price per KWHr delivered. Obviously, cities and homes will vary by quite a bit.

I've made a lot of improvements to my home to slash energy use.... the most recent was replacing a very comfortable, low cost water bed with a sleep number bed that is about 10x the price but I think it will pay for itself with electricity savings from not having to heat the water. High use areas are LED bulbs and fluorescent in most others. Also done in the past few years was a new concrete tile roof that is far better insulation than the old but pretty wood shake, double pane windows replaced the single pane, and thick attic insulation.
.
Still, after you do all that, there is still a cost to cool your home and knowing the total cost paid for a certain number of KWHr is a useful number to compare states.
