Only 37% of what you pay for an iPhone X (ten) goes to materials with the rest left for manufacturing, overhead and profits! If Samsung hasn't lowered their BOM costs, the S8 I bought at Costco has 55% of the cost going to materials!
With a 5% to 18% higher profit margin due to its lower BOM as a percentage of retail price, Apple is clearly positioning its phone as a "status symbol" to take advantage of its popularity while it can.

Is it worth it?
