The reason the economy didn't grow under Obama is two-fold. 1) the republican sequestration (1% of GDP per year) and the failure of businesses to increase wages as they've done under after all previous recessions.
Business increased wages in the form of paying for higher health care costs. In CA, we also significantly raised the minimum wage.

The cost of a car wash in Mtn View SOARED when they were forced to give health care. I'm fine with that as I stopped washing my cars there as often as in the past and got "exercise" doing it myself.

If you want someone to work for you, then you should pay a fair wage. I pay my housecleaners a bit over $40/hr each. They bid on my job for a fixed price, not an hourly rate and are far better than hourly workers of the past and do it in half the time. They are illegal immigrant sisters granted immunity by Reagan and work hard and say they really enjoy cleaning so that is why they are so good at it. Funny too is they both think many recent illegal immigrants are lazy and take too much of the fruits of their hard work in the form of high taxes. They get really animated when I ask them how do they feel about "the wall" and Trump. Like me, they didn't vote for Trump but think he is right about ILLEGAL immigration.

Before ACA and higher min wage, the cost of a car was was $13 before tip. Today is is $24. The workers get a much higher min wage AND health care.... of course, the owner may not have to hire as many if more like me let their cars stay dirty longer or wash them themselves.
