Still, I bristle a little when I hear statements like:
"ACA will save the average family 2500 a year" and "You can keep your Doctor" are poster children for political lies told us to get the progressive achievement over the hill so to speak.
Yes, both of those proved false. But were they political lies?
It was the red states who refused to set up exchanges that shrunk the pool of insured putting pressure on insurance companies to raise rates and it was the insurance companies who dropped so many grandfathered policies (though I suspect the Dems knew they would probably do this).
If you get outmaneuvered politically, were you lying?
It will be interesting to see how much of the new tax bill turns out to be political lies. While the NYT claims 3/4 of Americans will see their taxes lowered now, in 2025, when the tax code changes for individuals expire, most will see their rates go up. http://
And what about the impact to the budget deficit? It seems at the least disingenuous, if not outright political lying, for fiscally conservative folks to ignore this...
Personally, I have no patience for political partisans of any stripe, and that includes Libertarians. While no one likes being told what to do, the political problems of today are so large that it makes it hard not to have government play a significant role in our lives. I don't think the Swiss, Swedes, Danes, or Norwegians have any (big) problem with government.
It depends how you do it, and there is a heck of a lot of room for improvement in how we govern in this country... |
