I feel a recent incident shows how much people try to shut down other people's right to free speech. In October, a woman named Juli Briskman extended her middle finger to the presidential motorcade and, as a result of a photograph of the incident going viral on social media, her employer fired her.

This affront to free speech touched me so much that I had a bumper sticker printed to say, "Honk to support Juli Briskman" which I placed on the back bumper of my car. I didn't realize how many other people shared my conviction until I stopped at an intersection and a car behind me, seeing my new bumper sticker, gave a short honk. Others cars slowly followed suit. The outpouring of support brought a tear to my eye as I looked in the rear view mirror at all these people who wanted to do something, anything, to show they also supported free speech.

I was so caught up in the emotional moment that I didn't see the traffic light until it turned yellow. I had to step on the gas to make it through the intersection. Unfortunately none of my new friends were able to make the light before it turned red. I barely had time to put my hand out of the window and extend my middle finger to them as a sign of solidarity with them in support of Juli Briskman.
