picked up some MTUM and FFTY...
FFTY roughly doubled from the 2016 low. MTUM didn't double, but not far from it. All things being equal, that's a strong outperformance compared to the broad index (which also made from bottom to top a not so shabby almost 56%).

Why is this happening? FFTY is the Investors business daily 50 index - their best 50 stocks that money can buy - based on a combination of technical and fundamental factors. Historically, this index has been known to outperform, and it's done it again, in the form of an ETF.

MTUM buys the strongest performers over the previous 6 to 12 months. This happens to be the sweet spot of momentum plays. Short term outperformers (like, 1 month) tend to underperform. And so do the stocks that were the strongest over the past 3 years - they also tend to reverse. Medium term outperformers tend to continue to keep running for a while, especially the ones that were the strongest over the past 6-12 months.

So, no wonder that both of them are doing well.

There are many questions, like - how would they behave during declines?

Official disclaimer -- If interested, do your own dd... I'm not an advisor, and generally don't know wtf I'm doing.

If you come up with anything interesting related to those names - let me know.
