| | | <….conflicting noise is getting very loud !> Good reason to listen to a lot of music...) Seriously....one of the few George Soros comments remember agreeing with, worth repeating now and then.
"Trading is a young man's game."
That's why - at 74 - enjoy hanging out, a little, with the young bucks here, and on Kirk's thread. Don't want to stir anybody up. But IMHO? Kirk is worthy of everyone's respect. Know from my 6 yrs at Merrill Lynch, working with the public, whether as a broker or registered financial advisor, isn't easy. And there's never a shortage of critics if you go on the record about anything...))
Anyway, after a long successful career as an independent professional trader, retired in 2012 with 2/3 of capital already repositioned in 4 distinct, long term, real, and personal, property portfolios. Stock traders AWA some investors leave their capital & stocks with the broker, in street name. The firm is the custodian of the assets. For reasons there's no time to get into, decided to hold title and custody of the all my long term assets, instead. Completed the remaining 1/3 allocation at attractive prices from 2012 thru late 2017.
Prime mineral properties are very hard to buy at acceptable prices even for those of us who live in the area and have developed the requisite contacts. Last major mineral property price top in 2013? Kid you not, Bob. Tulip Bulb Mania. Standing room only at the County Courthouse. Lemmings coming close to throwing punches for the "privilege" of "holding the bag". Best thing to do is humbly allow them to win, tightly clutching THE BAG all the way down the ensuing bust.
By the absolute bottom, locally,in 2017, prices were a tiny fraction of the 2013 feeding frenzy. Like being on the floor of the NYSE, over a century ago, at a big top, then the sparsely populated floor at the much later bottom. Talk about an adrenalin rush?! Wow... Far more fun AND profit than trading stocks. Wish I'd moved here 30 yrs ago!!
Anyway, done very little stock trading in recent years. Did take a nice ST gain in only position, today. Were it not for still being sick as a dog? Would probably have tried to squeeze it for MOAR.<lol>
All the best. Your friend,
