Electric Vehicles' Range Is Nearly Split in Half in Cold Weather: Study (Updated)

Interesting.

I propose that each new electric car should include a wood burning fireplace in order to keep occupants warm and minimize loss of range.

Or maybe a kerosene or benzene burning stove...

That being said...

Looking at it from the perspective of fuel energy transfer to motion - is the ICE so much less efficient than an electric engine that some much more waste heat is evolved? (This of course neglects the severe losses in electric in energy transfer from production and charging - just running the engine).

Perhaps there could be a better system than whatever is in place now to capture heat from electric engine and batteries? Likely there is nothing now (?)

Or maybe we need t develop a new technology that hasn't been developed yet...
