Sometimes, an analyst will recommend a long position to a high target so his people can get short the stock at an unreasonable level. I learned that the hard way back in the early 90s when I led an effort to bust some shorts in a stock and got to know the shorts pretty well. They ended up giving me a very expensive and troublesome education.

When it comes to making money, anything goes with some of those people.
