EXACTLY! It is a double scam. Builders back politicians so they want an excuse to raise taxes to "solve the problem" plus get lower fees to erect new buildings for higher profits. The TECH CEOs are busy bodies who don't trust their workers to work remotely so they want their empires close at hand where they can sell the quality of life in SF Bay Area as a recruiting tool. There is little extra services needed (police, fire, schools) at first when you build office space and require other cities to house the workers..... so building office buildings makes it possible for politicians to keep bribing public workers in CA with obscene pensions in exchange for votes... Eventually we get gridlock traffic and massive gentrification where even the cheapest of places is rented by workers with some sort of job. Vagrancy, being intoxicated in public or even urinating in public used to be illegal. We've made it acceptable behavior. We really need to go back to being intoxicated means a night in jail. 2nd time in a year and you do 10 days in a center that gives you meals, showers, clean clothes and counseling with participation in AA or NA and signed attendance sheets mandatory. 3rd time and get 3 months where you are confined for a month then allowed out for 2 months only to look for work, attend AA/NA meetings or work a job.... Once you can take care of yourself and rent a place with your own money, then you can get drunk or shoot up fine as long as you keep working... but here in CA it is very hard to evict bums who stop paying rent so who wants them? A buddy got a ticket for pissing in a bush after windsurfing at Palo Alto Baylands Park... yet the stupid city has the main streets filled with campers dropping sewerage into the storm drains... if lucky for it to go that far... Silly.
