That will eventually help level the playing field, but only if Tesla participates. Right now, I think they own the self driving market here in CA with maybe Waymo in second. I'm not sure either Tesla or Google will give up their data for free...

Like most moats, it will dry up and the dragons will die unless they are fed with new innovation. For Tesla, that will be moving well beyond selling cars.

I keep thinking Apple will eventually pull a Palm and Sony and come to Earth but they seem to have figured out how to get around "giving away the hardware to sell razor blades" financed by selling "premium razors" for what will eventually be a cheap commodity product similar to our HP printers of the 1990s...

I think Tesla will be the Apple of energy storage and mobility. That is the cars themselves can store electricity generated by their roof tiles much like a Powerwall and be great resources in CA when we shut down large parts of the state for wild fire protection. Is it worth the premium? Not for me but I've said the same about Amazon and now even Buffett owns quite a bit of both Apple and Amazon.

With Tesla's exponential ramp of cars sold this year, my guess is their share is much larger now.
