HI rick,

No doubt.

I'm a whole lot more comfortable buying XOM or CVX than I am betting on TSLA continuing its parabolic run.

Here is a energy growth rate going out into 2040.

screencast.com

The only thing in decline is Biomass and coal and coal just barely!

A slowing growth rate admittedly, but lots of demand coupled with known depletion rates, that should firm up pricing to the be greater than the cost of the next marginal barrel of oil yet to be discovered.

Drilling rigs have plateaued for the last 3 weeks. Many think peak US shale oil will be reached in this Half - H1 2020.

The US now sets the price on WTI. It appears to me that those who have bet the farm with debt, are pumping every barrel they can to get free cash flow enough to pay down debt. Sooner or later that's a loser plan. Mergers and acquisitions will take out that excess supply. Price of WTI shall soon follow.

I could well have made a better buy this month, but the important thing in a long term buy and hold dividend growth portfolio is to get the stock. These last two months have assigned me some shares, all within the 5 year low plus or minus the dividend.

I'm OK with that. If it pays a dividend and price is even lower - I'll gladly averaged down and give myself a pay raise into the next year.

I see warren buffet now has a lot of OXY and Phillips 66.
