Wow, we are very similar including leaving HP in 1998 at age 41 after loading up on IBM stock in 1994 at $11 (post split adjusted) but with no wife or pension for backstop.

I LOVE PEET's coffee! My GF was using the old excuse I don't need anything so she doesn't buy me xmas gifts while asking me to give her money... I said I love Peet's and can't get the decaf FR beans at Costco so why not get me some of those.... always the bargain hunter, she gave me some gift cards from Costco to buy it myself so she saved 20 or 25% plus the refunds once a year for using the cards. (I was hoping to save a trip but now since I walk 4.5 miles RT to downtown, I can stop in, get a bag of beans and free cup of coffee, sit a spell and walk home.) I was shocked how expensive it was compared to Costco for a pound...

Try sfbaycoffee.com for FR too. For years Costco carried their decaf FR in 3# bags but now they switched to 2# bags and don't carry the FR, just some medium roast. To sip all day, I mix 2 scoops of leaded French Roast with 6 scoops of decaf FR beans and grind it fresh. If I travel and can't get coffee, it is a low enough dose that I don't get withdrawal headaches but it still has some kick.

I may start ordering their decaf FR online again...

The country needs to fix health care. ACA was a decent start but sucks as I know many semi retired, get ACA subsidy folks who have tons of capital gains that are waiting until Medicare kicks in so they can star cashing out... One widowed friend had over $3M in gains in one tech stock her husband bought but she won't take any gains to lock in profits since she'd lose basically free health care. The country and the state lost MANY MANY times the cost of her subsidy to lost or delayed capital gains taxes... Just in CA if she sold $1M it would be $130K!

Just think how competitive our country would be if new companies and old ones didn't have to pay for incremental health care for hiring incremental employees! I hate taxes but I'd capture much of the gains from moving jobs offshore by taxing REVENUE for all things but food and shelter sold in the US to pay for something like Medicare for all. If people wanted something better, their own insurance companies can stay in business selling fancy upgrades... My libertarian friends would shoot me for that idea, but IN EXCHANGE for this I'd also ELIMINATE the corporate tax and put all the F'ing lobbyists out of business. Asswipe politicians couldn't get rich selling influence as easily without a corporate tax.
