Funny you mentioned the Big Blue dress code, I am definitely not a dress up type of person, shorts and a T in summer and sweats in winter do it for me. So I was not a happy camper having to wear a tie to work, but the great thing was that when Gerstner showed up he dumped the dress code, so most of us immediately switched to jeans and T's, except for some old timers who just could not 'ditch the tie' <ggg>.

I'm also very familiar with your state, have family in Carmel Valley just north of downtown San Diego and close to the ocean. Love it there, it's the only place I have been in the US where you literally don't have to check the weather report, because it generally will be the same most days. My wife and I have visited most of the National Parks, hiked in the Sierras around Sonora pass in June (shorts and snow were nice) and driven up the coast. Love the state, it's on our list of 'where we might want to end up'. Housing is crazy if you have to buy these days, on the other hand my brother bought his in the 80's and the appreciation has been breathtaking. Nice position to be in. Taxes are low for him to, due to the time he has been there.
