Actually Martin was in in prison for contempt of court. He was held there for years and told that if he did not confess to a crime, they would never let him out. For a long time, he resisted, but finally gave up and gave them a confession so he could get out of jail

. I probably would have done the same thing. I do not know if Martin was guilty or not guilty, but that is how he became a felon.
