Interesting. CA shut down at midnight on St. Patrick's day (March 17th) and people pretty much followed the guidelines as there were no big crowds shown on TV going to bars in SF, which I believe were shut down. The parade was also cancelled. Much earlier, NOLA held their Mardi Gras on Feb 25th.... Did NYC also have a similar large party for Mardi Gras or is the simple act of riding crowded subways in NYC that much more dangerous than riding crowded BART trains in the SF Bay Area?

Many counties in CA are quite red politically and very rural just like many of the red, rural parts of the US that are not seeing high infection rates. Needless to say, they probably don't have restaurants that are on the tour stopping list for Chinese travelers who come to the US to see how close to authentic cooking they can get in groups here...

It will be interesting to see all the results of studies on all this data, if we live long enough that is. Hopefully we learn something, but when you have people thinking it is OK to burn coal just because the climate models are imperfect, anything is possible including regressing to stupidity.
