That narrative is wrong on so many fronts. For starters, it is not true that Sweden did not go through social distancing. Rather Sweden trusted their citizens to voluntarily do the right thing, and they did. It is doubtful that other nations would have been as willing to oblige.

Furthermore, Sweden made it practical for the people to follow through on social distancing via a lot of various government services and a pre-existing infrastructure and services that supported those efforts.

It is highly unlikely that other nations could have followed that path. This issue has been well discussed in various circle, but the narrative is often missed in the popular media.
