Safely Stateside, in school. But what's your point? I did say that journalists ran a risk. Some more than others, obviously. Gore did go, while Bill, Newt, and Dan stayed home. (As, I confess, all the guys I knew did, and as I would have done too. For all that's being said today, I remember very little anguish at the time about who'd be sent out if you got a deferral. This doesn't speak well of the youth of the time, perhaps, but who ever said 20-year-olds were altruistic?) |
