The pension fund going bust story sometimes is overdone, imo. If they need 7%, then a lot of them should have gotten it last year...and in fact enough for two years. But it's definitely a real issue and has already accounted for several municipal bankruptcies. What gets me is the problems are well known but these areas do nothing to correct them. As the article makes clear the politics pretty much favor rushing further into hopeless debt.

Blue state bailouts, including covering pension funds, figure heavily in the current Pelosi scam proposal. I think a major theme in the elections this fall is who gets stuck with who's debt.
