Andrew: Putting aside the politics and the philosophical struggle involved, Vietnam was about chromium for our missiles. There are very few regions on earth that have chromium, the former Soviet Union being one, another, Vietnam. At the time (1950s - 1960s) America was getting the majority of chromium from Vietnam. This metal was an integral part of the production of our missile warheads, including ICBMs. Without it the Cold War might have gone hot. FT
