Did you follow the url in that image?

Its a real web page, and it does say "Bacterial Pneumonia Caused Most Deaths in 1918 Influenza Pandemic". But it doesn't mention masks.

The paper mentioned - DM Morens et al. Predominant role of bacterial pneumonia as a cause of death in pandemic influenza: Implications for pandemic influenza preparedness. The Journal of Infectious Diseases DOI: 10.1086/591708 (2008) - Doesn't seem to mention masks either see ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
