Where is the science that indicates wearing a mask in any way prevents or attenuates the propagation of virus infections?

i.e. why are we being forced to wear masks instead of the government helping people to improve their immune systems... the real defence against viral infections.

Where is the "Biggest bang for the buck" analysis? or any kind of analysis??
