It's like many of those unbiased publications have been trying to tell the world all along - the RBOCs are secretly against xDSL and they control the majority of the copper. The Telecom Act doesn't appear to working exactly as some thought it would either.

As to some of the comments I've heard about corporates looking for alternate solutions perhaps these two articles are starting to give us hints as to why:

"As the Internet continues to explode, the computer industry must develop new technology to handle increased bandwidth demands, said WorldCom chief operating officer John Sidgmore.

Bandwidth needs to double about 10 times a year, said Sidgmore, who spoke during the NationsBanc Montgomery Securities Conference.
"The communications network of the 21st century will be built to support the computer-to-computer world, not to support human interaction," he said.
"To get to grow 1,000 percent [a year], the technology doesn't exist today. ...
Don't get depressed. We will find a way to solve this."

And a previously posted article that kind of stunned Scott & I:

I was just complaining to Reese about how 30 minutes ago my net connection turned into a snail's pace with many sites but my e-mail still checks fine. His idea is some large commercial users are coming on in the evening transferring files and it makes sense.
