volume... i would say less than 100k 30 day avg is shaky. i would say no erratic vol...that is days of 10k shares and two weeks later vol of 300k. things like that

I run a Q+ scan and set up that for a 'minimum' before I want to even bother looking at a chart and therefor select it for later review is that the 5 day average of volume is over 50,000 and the 2 week is over 50,000 and the monthly is over 50,000. I think when I check for each of these volumes that I can help eliminate exactly what you are saying when you get 2,000 all year long and then today is 500,000 shares traded. The average volume for the month just isn't going to cut the mustard. Now when I am reviewing a stock, I also look to see that it wasn't trading very thinly to make sure it is ok.

Your criteria of 100,000 is a little steeper than mine, but I figured if the stock can sustain 50,000 all month, then I don't really care about what the stock was doing 3 months before since I concentrate mostly on stocks under $10 and most had bad balance sheets or out of favor and now 'could' come back. Well, that is the goal of the stocks I have been trying to work with over the past 3 months. February will hopefully bring more knowledge to get my system working better. Best of luck with your picks and post one of them once in a while, I shall do the same.
