BC, the thing about the California lockdowns is this.

They were very effective in reducing the COVID-19 infection rates for certain groups of people, namely Whites and Asians.

However, they failed miserably for underprivileged races, especially the huge Latino population here. The reasons should be obvious to anyone. They can't work from home, they often have multiple families staying together in one household, and said families still intermingle amongst each other despite the "guidelines."

Meanwhile the state has done a piss poor job setting up public testing sites in communities that need them the most. Due to general incompetence, California was behind on testing for most of the pandemic. (I remember bitching about it last July.)

Also California was really bad with Spanish speakers trying to get the message out. Even a local leader in one Latino community said, "I felt like I was yelling into the abyss. It was like hearing echoes come back from the Grand Canyon."

It got so bad that this community formed its own task force to try and deal with the crisis on their own:

SJMercury - Their East San Jose neighbors were dying. So frustrated community leaders formed their own COVID task force

Of course, it's hard to vote out the local and state politicians from office. Threats of recalls don't faze them. They can always portray them as "Republican-led efforts" and scare the citizens into re-electing their piss-poor leaders over and over again:

LATimes - Gavin Newsom and Democrats are dragging Donald Trump into the recall fight

Because you know, the bluest state in the union, the state that had perhaps the smallest percentage of voters voting for Trump, is so weak and fragile, Trump supporters can do oh-so-much to mess up the governor's own efforts.
