Actually, Nixon was asked for documentation of an even more potentially damaging nature. After Butterfield blabbed that Nixon had recorded everything in the Oval Office, including telephone calls, Nixon was asked to release all of the tapes that had been made. To remember exactly what rulings were made in the matter and how it was handled at the time, I would have to dig into the history books.
