Speaking of hens and roosters, I grew up raising chickens. Every spring we'd start 100 chicks from a local hatchery. All identical little yellow creatures. In weeks, as the roosters began to be identified, they were soon separated from the hens, and soon after that, they became "fryers". The hens were kept for eggs, which we sold what we didn't eat. In the fall, the hens slowly became "stewers", which lasted through the winter. The next spring, the cycle started again.

You haven't been a chicken farmer until you've experienced cleaning a chicken coop.
