Doesn't matter if you like it, it is the truth.
>> Basically they sold our local quality of life to the billionaire owners so they can attract or poach workers from competitors in the area with a nicer place to work and higher pay
The politicians didn't want housing because it costs a bundle to educate the kids of the workers and we already have under funded pensions.

They just want the property taxes from the businesses to keep paying pensions and providing promised services.

They want the workers to commute in or, better yet since the wealthy have fewer kids, they want the wealthy workers to gentrify the neighborhood and force out the "problem tenants" with lots of kids getting free lunches.

Don't forget Giggle, Farcebark and Crapple built self contained campuses here so their workers would not leave and be more productive. This gave NOTHING to the local cites since the campuses had free food, dry cleaning, hair cuts, etc... so the small businesses didn't get much help.

Many of the other companies did a lot for the local economies, especially for caters who would bundle loads of meals for on site business meetings. I have a friend I went to kindergarten with who I greatly underestimated as she made a great business catering for Genentech and a few other companies in the South SF biotech zone.

I for one, recall in the 1980s joking to some coworkers when asked to conserve water so they could add more people that I will flush my toilet twice so they don't build more housing, increase traffic then increase our traffic to build more lanes on the roads and taxes for the schools to house the kids... I should have flushed three times!

and from 21 years ago, I was published in a fairly large paper:
