When I first moved to NYC in the early '90s, I thought that it was the crappiest dump I've ever set foot in. When lived in LA, I realized that NYC had 10x the standard of living and wasn't anywhere as bad as I thought.

All the bad NYC issues boil down to lack of land and old infrastructure. Neither of which are easily solvable. But LA and SFA problems are entirely manmade and are due to zoning laws.
