I can see your point about the fab business. But there are 3 issues that need addressing:

(1) Intel cannot be both a fab business and a chip business b/c competitors in chip business won't give it the fab business.

(2) The company does not have a coherent strategy for any of the major challenges facing it. I like your comparison to Microsoft. But you need to remember that it was mostly luck in the form AWS that saved Microsoft. Microsoft gets credit for quickly taking advantage of the opportunity and converting their Office and related software to SaaS while copying AWS. But the innovation and business did not originate from Microsoft. There is no reason to believe Intel will get as lucky.

(3) I don't have faith in the management. I had the same issue with HP way back. So many people told me how great HP was and that it was just their current management that was messing it up. But guess what? That was my point. HP had been a great company and had great mass behind it. But it was no longer great and was bleeding year after year.

HP, rather than Microsoft, is the better analogy for Intel. Where is HP now?
