Interesting story today in the local newspaper about the Wisconsin based catalog company "Lands'End" instituting a tele-work program for order taking. It seems they had to install three telephone lines at each employees home, one for data, one to receive incoming call and a third line for immediate access to a supervisor.

The pilot program has been completed and they are going to expand it.

From the story: The program helps the rural-based company fill its hard-to-fill third shift and cover peak days or bad weather days when workers are unable to traverse the wintry Wisconsin roads

To handle the volume of holiday calls, which can jump by 300 percent, the company adds 2,600 employees to its staff of 5,400.

(A company spokesperson) admits the program is "costly" but would not offer specifics, saying only that it will pay for itself in employee and customer satisfaction.

If they had to install 3 phone lines at each site they obviously aren't using BT. Someone needs to clue them in.
