feeding pigeons

I admit to feeding birds too, even though the birds attract cats which eat the birds much to my wife's distress. (We don't actually have pigeons, mostly dove and grackles. Lately there are giant nests of parrots which escaped from someone's cage years ago.

It seems like the birds and cats and homeless are around whether I feed them or not. It's not just liberal compassion, I help people because it reminds me that I am lucky to have the house and the car and that I can buy more than I need, decide later what I really wanted, and give the rest away all the time patting myself on my back for being righteous. My kids don't want that s**t, but the homeless say thank-you. It's more about me feeling good about myself than it is to make some long term improvement in the lives of the unfortunate.... and it helps me keep my pantry fresh.
