I think the Taiwanese would take up arms and fight much more than those in HK... Also, it is their best way to poach highly educated chip designing and building talent (usually educated in the US) so they will make a lot of noise, but stick to a long term plan of backing discontent here with spies and perhaps cyber attacks, etc.

Then while we fiddle with our partisan crap, they'll invest money we spend there via the massive trade deficit in Africa, Australia and Eastern Europe to get more of those countries dependent on them.

For all we know, they could be behind the Green Movement as they lock in supplies of rare earth materials needed to make magnets and batteries then drive us bankrupt trying to pay for it while they secretly continue to burn coal and fossil fuels they buy from Russia.
