What is too complex about a national sales tax to replace employee contribution to payroll taxes, Medicare and health insurance? We've had it in California for ages. And now if you buy something out of state via Amazon from a large company, they have to pay CA sales taxes too, even if they don't have a "presence" here. It has served to have Amazon move tens of thousands of warehouse jobs here so the minus one sigma Californians (mostly HS graduates with no meaningful college degree) have decent jobs. Before that tax change, Amazon had the warehouses located in Reno and trucked the goods down HWY 80 to avoid the 9% plus CA sales tax. By doubling it for foreign imports.... even better!
