Kirk, I am a lurker and have some thoughts on SS. I took mine @62 and now 72. I could have lived those 10 years without it. No regrets. You should be able to get a handle on what you need in retirement versus "studying" from 62-70. You are a smart guy. You windsurfing buddies are right.

Uncle Sam wants us all to "wait". It is a free loan to them. Everyone's situation is different but we all have lost friends too early. Can't take it with you! Lost my wife @63 and a few others near that age. For those familiar with JimisJim on the DIVY REINVEST board this topic was a pet peeve for him. Lots of discussion. He was an oil field consultant who planned and planned DIVY investing, SS, and working on old homestead he inherited up in MI. He passed away suddenly in CA @63 a couple of years ago. All those dreams and plans never realized. Health versus wealth is one's most valuable asset.

Life is just too short. Nice to have a big estate but most folks reaching 80 are going downhill fast. What are they going to spend their money on? I still plan to ski etc in my 80's in CO where I live. My windsurfing days are over although I can still kite. I spend many days working outside clearing, moving rocks besides golf, fishing, hiking, and travel. What would most here rather be doing in their 60's?

A friend of mine has a great saying. "I am not gonna fly coach so my kids can fly FIRST CLASS". Funny but true. I agree with BOB Furman's post a few days ago about hard work, saving, living within you means etc. He is living his dream in WI now.

my best to all who post here.
