With THIS president? Of course they would.

But, um, seriously, you're right: that sort of misdirection can work, but only up to a point. One's blabbing should be cleverer than Monica's was. For example, if anyone noticed that she was seeing more of the Prez that might be considered normal, or that she was seeing him alone, she should have said breezily, "Oh, that's cuz we're having an affair! I'm in love!" She should NOT have offered salacious details.

As for Linda Tripp: trust me, I will NEVER want a friend capable of recording my telephone conversations without my consent.
