Sorry I cannot read a word of the NYT link (not a subscriber and they say I've reached my "limit of fee articles" which must mean my limit was zero since I've not read it for years).

Possibly the problem is that he was actually treating patients in Kiryas Joel, not NYC, but a small town of about 33,000 about 60 miles north of NYC.

Nevertheless he is an Orthodox Jew and I trust his word, especially versus the NYT.
