OK, correction noted. I must have falsely remembered you said you were isolating to protect your wife who has comorbidities. If so, then it does seem you are taking a lot of risk that you could pass on to your wife if you were to get the virus by not taking all the precautions you could.

I live in a more crowded area so I've worn my N95 masks indoors while shopping since before the first shutdowns when they were telling us masks didn't help. These days it is the law and requirement by the private businesses so I comply and feel safer inside knowing others are masked.

Outside, I don't wear a mask when doing my daily 4.2 miles even through town but I don't stay near anyone long enough to get more than a single whiff of their diluted air. About half give me dirty looks for walking without a mask outdoors. I carry an N95 in a sealed wrapper in case I get injured or mugged... and I have a surgical mask to wear if I stop at a store, such as the produce market that has a mask requirement to go inside and pay.

I don't blame some older dog walkers from wearing masks as dog walking for most/many here seems very social and they usually start out 6 feet apart and end up having the dogs sniff each other's asses and the owners standing very close while this is happening. What bothers me more is I see dog crap left in public places more often now than in the past.

I help my GF care for her 92 year old mother now and then but mostly provide her with moral support and breaks. They will put me in "isolation" if I attend any indoor parties and we struggle with should we skip a few weeks of our nice meal indoors on Sunday afternoons. Given it is football season, takeout has worked fine for me.
We'll probably return to dining indoors when this current wave passes, hopefully in a few weeks.
Just so you know, I am not cowering like those who are compelled to obediently wear their masks everywhere.
This language makes it sound more "political" than "scientific." Bash those who have different levels of comfort taking risks. Churchgoing people used to have more compassion for those with different beliefs in the past...

Your statement also shows a complete lack of cultural awareness....

FWIW, the ardent mask wearers here are Asian where their culture is much more polite than ours. They've worn masks on public transit and in public for years and years before COVID showed up as they believe it is their duty to not give their bugs to others to help keep society healthy.
