The "greens" here say heat pumps are more efficient than NG so that will recover some of the cost but I believe what they have to say about costs about as far as.... well, I'll keep it clean. In a mild climate like Palo Alto, with average lows in Dec/Jan of 38, a heat pump is hard to beat for efficiency.
