I totally agree with you, If ADPT's RAID does well, we will all be better off in the coming years. But there is one thing that still bothers me:
In the RAID market, it seems that one or two firmware engineer(s) will make all the difference. I don't know enough about RAID to understand why and I hope I am wrong, but things seems go that way.
For example, in early 90s, Ultrastor/BusLogic/DPT/ADPT all failed in
their RAID product, MYLX dominated entire RAID market. It was said that the reason is MYLX's firmware is far better than other's,even though all of them using same Intel DAC960 processor on the RAID board. In 96, MYLX started going down. I remember reading somebody's post saying MYLX lost their key firmware leaders. Since then, RAID market was dominated by AMI. Nobody has a better RAID product. I am not sure if AMI got the talented firmware leaders from MYLX or not. All in all, it looks to me only one group of firmware engineer can make good RAID product, if we got looser leading engineers from MYLX, how can we expect the ADPT RAID product to compete with AMI.
