the money we spend in protecting oil in the middle east It has not been the US policy to protect oil in the middle east for the last 50 years, except for the oil in Kuwait/Saudi Arabia. The 50 years of energy policy have been focused on stopping oil production so that North American supplies of tar sands, gas, and fracking oil would finally be cost competitive with the vast existing supplies of oil.
