Unions are the old style of industry.

I fully agree, which makes them the conservative's play, which fits right into the Republican 'afraid of the future' mindset. I wasn't clear, I think worker protections needs a new paradigm, I was just speculating that the attempts to cling to the old industry model will eventually lead to embracing the whole old model.
