I agree we should get SS and Medicare tax free. I paid for both since I was 16 years old with pre tax dollars. I did not get a tax deduction for contributing to these so I should not have to pay a tax when the government gives me my money back. I think they account for it with some being tax free in that is a return of original investment and the inflation gains are taxed so maybe that is OK.

It upsets me how they misuse "entitlements" to bash things. We are ENTITLED to SS and Medicare since WE F'ing PAID for them. People who don't work hard and want handouts from the government are "entitled jerks" who are not entitled to anything but an opportunity to work hard without barriers due to their race, religion, sexual preference or or other things beyond their control.

I agree with Mr. Obama when he said people who work hard at an honest job should have a "fair" retirement and access to affordable health care.

I don't mind paying SOMETHING for Medicare but it is obscene that we have to pay more for making more sacrifices early in life to have a better retirement. But as I tell my good buddy who graduated from IIT and came to the US with nothing and worked his way to success and complains about the freeloaders here being as bad or worse than in India, you can't get blood from a stone.
