I am not one into playing the blame game, but if SIVB took the Powell Fed seriously, they would have had a much bigger cash position. Rising rates will always cause a problem for those who are overleveraged. If I had to blame anyone here, it would be SIVB for lack of risk management.

Now it is true that the Powell Fed is composed of clueless rank amateurs who told us 18 months ago that inflation was transitory when it was raging and now they are telling us that inflation is stubbornly high when it is declining and about to plunge. They look at data that is lagging, rather than leading.

Trump was stupid to nominate Powell as chairman, but at least he realized his mistake and attacked him and got him to stop raising rates in 2018. Biden is even dumber than Trump for renominating Powell.

If Bernanke was the Fed 0chairman, he would have urged the other Fed members to stop raising rates a long time ago and flooded the banking system with liquidity. The Powell Fed will continue raising rates.

Powell is willing a crash.
