Well the question becomes "informed about what?".

There is a wide variety of ways to become informed. Most of us don't need to know most of the topics discussed on the news.

Where to buy fresh mangoes is a lot more important real world informtation for most of us compared to the topics discussed on the news. What do people in Florida care about homicide rates in Chicago? Where is the fresh milk on sale is much more important the the Chicago murder rate, but what you think is on cable TV?
