Well Janice, ya gotta excuse me. Kennedy was shot 6 days before I was born, so all I have is the history books. After I was born, it took me a few moments to get my wits about me. But even as I was leaving the hospital, I remember now looking very hard at a woman walking in as my ma and me were leaving....yep you got it -- I found out later that she was none other than Judith Cambell Exner.

Oh yes, and thanks for the book reference. I've taken down a note. I haven't studied much on the JFK job, except watching a short video on it by a ballistics expert, who was entirely convinced there had to be a second shooter --- but nobody in the video touched the issue of motive. One thing I've never really believed though, is that our own government took him out -- just doesn't seem like something that would be at all possible to keep secret. I'd go for Sam Giancana, or someone similarly underworld.
J Edgar does sound like some kind of maniacal tyrant, and I wasn't aware of his proclivities until (Holly, Betty?) pointed it out. Amazing he got the FBI building named after him. But maybe everyone else was so corrupt also that they were afraid NOT to name a building after him. Maybe why nobody exposed him is because they didn't want to start a dirt war; a "sexual armaggedon", like I think it was William Bennett himself suggested may happen if people don't back off Clinton. Dang my memory is bad, I don't remember for sure who wrote or said that, but it was this past week, and it was someone who has or has had a position in the White House. Anyway, in some ways it sounds like a real riot --- this thread would have enough fodder to take us well into the next century! -GG-
