George,
Because of the time difference, I believe Janice may have left for the day, so I'll take the liberty of answering for her and the other Tahts.
"Taht" comes from the type of typo caused when fast typists overtype the keyboard buffer, for such cannot be helped when writing online. Thus, one constantly types "taht," "hte," and other ungainly letter transpositions, which cause one be forever backtracking to correct them. This can quickly become a nuisance and an interruption to the free flow of one's more important thoughts. Therefore, it was tacitly and unanimously decided that one should not waste time correcting such obvious typos and to let them go on through.
I think this to be sound reasoning and support it wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, because of my profession, I cannot allow myself to do it but wish that I could.
BTW, I see that "taht" is included in the SI spellchecker. I think that's nice.
