David Ryan was running a mutual fund working closely with William O'Neil of IBD fame. He noticed some criteria which helped him spot institutional sponsorship early before these stks became true mkt leaders. He named it the "ants" indicator. Three requirements:

1. 20-25% increase in stk price in a 15 day period (at the beginning of the move up)

2. Minimum of 20-25% increase in volume during that 15 day period

3. 12 or more of those 15 days are up
