There is a Catholic school close to where I grew up called "Saint Monica". Somehow, I doubt Our Lady Monica is connected to this, but hey, ya never know!

As I think I noted earlier, the word "mona" has an extremely vulgar connotation in Venetian dialect. Italians find the whole thing hilarious.

(For anyone who may be puzzled: in Italian the picture is normally called "La Gioconda"; if absolutely necessary, the "Monna Lisa", "monna" in this case being a diminuitive of "madonna", or simply "donna": an indication of her status as the wife of a wealthy merchant. But "Mona Lisa" is kinda like JFK saying "Ich bin ein Berliner". But worse.)
