People wanted their wooden knobs back on the doors and dashboard.

And I remember when car door handles were always in the same place. You didn't end up groping hopelessly in the dark when you were in an unfamiliar vehicle. Quite seriously, I don't see why the new custom--hey! put 'em ANYWHERE, let's make a GAME of it--isn't perceived as a genuine safety hazard.
